Shiga Kogen Mountain Resort 志賀高原

If you search for the largest ski resort in Japan, Shiga Kogen will probably be on the top of the list. It’s a very large ski resort and if you’re into exploring the mountain by skis, there are a variety of ski trails the place can offer for all levels. It’s so wide that it will be impossible to ski all areas in one day.

The ski areas are all interconnected, and you can choose to ski in one area and explore the nearby ones next. Did I say that each area has several ski resorts as well? This might confuse first timers when they decide to go on a holiday in Shiga Kogen because it’s hard to tell which area is best for skiing. I guess that’s where its charm lies at. There are plenty of areas to try and it’s really the go-to place for friends and families to have a ski holiday. Grab the map, take the lift, and ski your heart out. Just make sure you have enough time to go back.

With elevations of around 2000m, Shiga Kogen snow is on a different level on its own. You’ll definitely feel the difference in the snow quality, much to the delight of many who seek light powder snow.

Shiga Kogen Mountain Resort has five ski areas:
  • Okushiga Kogen Area
  • Yakebitaiyama Area
  • Kumanoyu Area
  • Yokoteyama/Shgibutoge Area
  • Central Area
