When driving along the Tohoku Expressway E4, or even by shinkansen, as you pass by Koriyama to Fukushima city, you’ve probably seen this beautiful mountain, Mt. Adatara. It is included in the top 100 famous mountains in Japan with a scaled height of 1728m.
This was one of my first trails and as a beginner, I took the easy route and went to Adatara Kogen Ski Resort, took their Ropeway that leads to their summit station where you have a nice Panorama Park. This is also the start of the trail leading to the mountain summit. Using this route, it takes off about an hour or two of hike time.
It’s a short fun hike to the top. We did this during the autumn season as a way to enjoy the autumn foliage. My photos do not do justice because I was mostly taking photos through my phone. It was a cloudy day too. One of these days, I will try my luck again and pray for a clear sunny day!
It was raining when we went there but because the trail goes through the forest, you’re pretty much sheltered from the rain and strong winds. The downside is you don’t really see a panoramic view until you slowly reach the top where you can pop your head out of the greenery. In a way, it’s a wonderful surprise if you power your way through the trail.
Don’t judge my gear as this was one of my first hikes. haha. You know how it is, if you want to hike, just go and do it. Then eventually you’ll figure out your own preference and build your gear from there. (^^)
Let me know if you tried this trail or any of the other ones.
